still not working for my utf8 site. or http://mtld.mobi/ pda emulator can not display utf8 contents. any other online emulator beside http://mtld.mobi/ ?
September 4th, 2007 at 11:31 pm
Try to test on SonyK750 emulator (apparently, NokiaN70 has some problem with display non-english content).
I’ve tested mambot on my pda.sanrsu.org.ru.

It seems to me the pda-bot-2.1.zip is corrupt. I can’t unzip it.
September 5th, 2007 at 12:28 am
Joomla installs it well. Anyway, you can try to unpack tar.gz version.
September 5th, 2007 at 11:56 am
joomla does NOT install the pdabot.zip
you can’t upzip it, it seems to be corrupt.
You can unpack the tar-file and zip it, but trying to install that zip, joomla can’t make a folder named ‘mambots/system/pda’.
September 5th, 2007 at 12:43 pm
To test I reinstall it on sanrsu.org.ru (Joomla!1.0.11) just now. Everything is all right!
To make sure I repacked pda-bot-2.1.zip by another archiver.

Hi,
I installed the latest version (2.1.2) and it is now not working? I previously had a really old version installed but now cannot see any mobile version of the site at all.

Marc:
What mambot settings did you use? How did you test it?
September 7th, 2007 at 5:26 am
With my nokia 6680 i see only the main content of the site.
How to modify the template to see the menu in only text mode….
September 7th, 2007 at 10:12 am
Installed easily and works well for my site! Great job. Thanks!

Can you please explain how to copy a menu to a footer module? Sorry if this is something I should already know. I am new to Joomla. I did copy the menu, gave it a name of footer and footer module. However it appears twice when viewing in a regular browser. How do I make it so that it will only appear in PDA broswer?
September 13th, 2007 at 5:41 am
It works awesome!
Thanks a lot!
September 13th, 2007 at 1:09 pm
Bruce:
It means your main template contains “footer” module position. Change in mambot options the name of footer position from “footer” to, for example, “user9″ and publish copy of a menu in the “user9″ position.
September 13th, 2007 at 1:12 pm
Bruce:
Don’t forget to change module position from “left” (default) to “footer” (or “user9″ as described above).

I could not doiwnload the files. When I click on the links my download program says that they are not found on the server

Magnus:
Try to download with another program or write me a request and I send these files to you by e-mail.
September 16th, 2007 at 8:48 am
I published the mambot. What needs to be done to the template? How does one set that up? Does it need to be assigned?
September 16th, 2007 at 8:51 am
Still no respnse as to why this mambot is not possible to download
September 16th, 2007 at 10:42 am
sanch:
That will do. You don’t have to assign template.
Visit your site from PDA and test it. Or you can test it in Firefox using User Agent Switcher plugin (available user agent strings listed in Testing pda version of a site without pda).
September 16th, 2007 at 10:44 am
Magnus:
I sent this plugin to you by e-mail.
September 16th, 2007 at 7:37 pm
Thanks So when people say they are organizing their template for a PDA what are they doing?
September 16th, 2007 at 11:54 pm
sanch:
Usually it means they add special css-file (<link media=”handheld” …>) for handheld devices. The page itself isn’t changed.
September 18th, 2007 at 9:30 am
Physicist: I tested it on numerous web browsers with handheld support and also on my Windows Mobile phone which it worked on with an older version but which it doesn’t work on now.
With regards settings, see below:
PDA for PDA-user-agents: yes
PDA for subdomain: no
PDA template: pda
Embed CSS: no
Content-type: text/html
Use xml-head: yes
DOCTYPE-head: WAPFORUM/XHTML Mobile 1.0
xmlns in html-head: yes
Gzip compress: no
There are loads more but a lot are irrelevant to this I presume. Any ideas?
September 18th, 2007 at 12:35 pm
Marc:
Behavior of version 1.0 corresponds to
Use xml-head: no
xmlns in html-head: no
What is utf-8 setting?
What means “doesn’t work”?
September 19th, 2007 at 11:19 am
Am unable to download, can you please send both downloads?
thanks
September 19th, 2007 at 11:23 am
Paul:

September 25th, 2007 at 4:29 am
Convert to UTF-8 is set to No.
By doesn’t work I mean it displays the full site and not the PDA template version.
What did you mean regarding the XML settings? What should they be set to?
Thanks in advance.
September 25th, 2007 at 8:06 pm
What do I have to adjust to get the Main Menu on the left side of the website to show?
The Main Menu is not on the same module position on every page.
Thanks.
September 27th, 2007 at 12:46 pm
I think your component is great but I need some help. I cannot get my left menu to load. I am using SWMenu which is a Javascript flyout menu generator. I know the left module is loading because the address is appearing but not the menu. Do you have any ideas for me?
Please note: I don’t have your component installed at my URL above.. I am still running it on my test box. Thanks!!!!
October 4th, 2007 at 11:42 am
I found out what the problem is… any users with SWMenu Pro you need to use Trans menus for them to appear. Your flyouts do not show up but your main level menu will show up. Thanks!
October 6th, 2007 at 6:11 am
Sorry to push but any idea why its not working for me based on my last post’s information? I really want this to work!
October 6th, 2007 at 6:13 am
Thank you for sharing!
October 6th, 2007 at 9:25 am
Marc:
Please send me a list of installed components and mambots (perhaps it can help to reproduce the problem on my pc). If it won’t help, I’ll ask you either to send me archive of your site, or to give me ftp-access to a site for some time (details we’ll discuss by e-mail or ICQ 287-402-579).
October 8th, 2007 at 5:43 am
Thanks Physicist, emailing now…

Hi Physicist, I emailed you on October 8th but have still had no reply, any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

I have just sent the reply.

Hello Physicist
Is there an idiots guide to using and installing your exelent program please?
A simple step by step would be great
Thanks

Yes. I’m going to release it tomorrow (Oct 27).
October 28th, 2007 at 7:27 am
Great. Thanks very much

At my provider now some works on upgrade of the equipment, therefore I could not release a guide today. I’ll try to make it as soon as possible.
November 3rd, 2007 at 7:43 am
can this be used in joomla 1.0 versios? speciall 1.13
November 3rd, 2007 at 9:14 am
I think the mambot should work in all 1.0.x versions.
November 6th, 2007 at 1:08 am
I have an idea which I think could be very valuable for this project. When I add the PDA mambot, I create a logo which has in bright red “Mobile Edition” written underneath. The problem is that this logo is 600×300 pixels in size. What I have found is that some handsets will resize this image to fit the screen, while others will not.
Seeing as you’re using WURFL now, can’t you query WURFL for the screen size of the device and then do a dynamic resize of the image on the fly. So, if the max screen width is 320, then do a proportional resize, create a new resized filename called logo_320×240.jpg or something. That way, after the first phone of a specific size causes the large logo to be resized, any other phone which has that same size screen will be able to use the newly resized image as well.
What do you think?
November 6th, 2007 at 1:57 am
It’s quite possible. I’m going to use PHP Image Rendering Library for such resizing.

Hello, I am having problem installing to bot, it give me error when installing with the install bot from joomla backend.

I am using joomla 1.0.13
The template installed correctly but none of the package .zip or the tar.gz of the bot work

If files from joomup.com/blog/ don't installed correctly, try to download files from http://joomlacode.org/gf/project/pda/frs/

Help we are having problems with getting logon to work. We are using Blackberry and iPhone and both fail.
Can you help?
December 5th, 2007 at 5:26 pm
Sorry, the web site I left with the last comment is not the site with the problem.
December 6th, 2007 at 9:41 am
I'll analyse this situation. Probably it is concerned with use of a javascript for a redirect, but I can give the exact answer only after some experiments.
December 12th, 2007 at 6:31 pm
I added the pda mambot and template but am unsure as to the process to get it to work independantly. I could not get the pda version to allow the normal template version to be used on a normal windows enviroment. At the moment I have had to unpublish the template and bot until I can get an answer from the forum.
December 13th, 2007 at 2:51 am
Paul:
Which browser do you use to access to the site? PDA-mambot must replace template for mobile browsers only.

Do I need to instal to PDA-Template too ?

Did you have a chance to analyze our problems?
January 2nd, 2008 at 3:27 pm
Chris Kieff:
Login doesn't work on some domains and some phones (see http://joomup.com/blog/2007/12/14/pdamambot-login-form-module/). Also on some phones you can see error mesages after login, but after page reloading you will be logged in.
January 14th, 2008 at 7:32 am
I have installed the template and bot with no problems at all. I have set up the subdomain as wap.tharna.co.uk but I was trying to get the wap.tharna.co.uk as the cut down version. And the www.tharna.co.uk to be the full version, even on a PDA. Is this possible, or do I need to alter something?
January 14th, 2008 at 9:32 am
Terk, just set
PDA for PDA-user-agents: No
PDA for subdomain: Yes
January 26th, 2008 at 11:34 pm
I installed the template and mambot into Joomla 1.0.11. I then published the mambot. When I try to access the mambot from the mambot list … I get a “restricted access” message and then the “lock” appears beside the mambot name in the list. Can you help, please.
January 27th, 2008 at 6:24 am
deejay:
I've never seen such a message.
May be xml-file is corrupted. Try to reinstall mambot.

I get an error with Firefox. I think it is assuming Firefox is a mobile browser. As soon as I unpublish the Mambot the error goes away.
The error in Firefox is:

March 2nd, 2008 at 6:37 pm
Jon, try to set "Content type: text/html" in mambots' parameters.
June 3rd, 2008 at 12:15 pm
Hi.
After install i show an error:
"Direct Access to this location is not allowed."
In frontend an backend the same!
Lars
June 3rd, 2008 at 3:05 pm
Lars, it means you installed it on Joomla!1.5. To solve the problem you should remove all the text from the /plugins/system/pdabot.php file (via FTP) and then uninstall plugin and template in backend.
The PDA-plugin for Joomla! 1.5 is here.
June 3rd, 2008 at 6:41 pm
Hehe… yes, that was it!
Thanks.
June 5th, 2008 at 3:50 pm
I want to download and install the template and pda mambot on my website. I am assuming that once installed I do not need to assign the template to any of my existing menu items. I am assuming that the pda template/mambot will work automatically with my main website i.e. when a user accesses it form a pda/mobile device Joomla will automatically display the website using the pda template whereas if users access it from a regular PC then the original website will continue to work as it does. My last question is that if I have .tv domain it is not going to create a problem.
If someone can advice, I will really really appreciate it.
Many thanks in advance.
June 5th, 2008 at 5:01 pm
Web design company, your assumptions are correct. And nothing depends on domain extension.
August 19th, 2008 at 6:07 am
Hi guys,
Doing the mobile site option again but wanted to hear from anyone who was also distributing content [jars/image/ringtones] through a mobile site on Joomla.
Thx

bot thinks IE7 is a mobile device
pda template showing to users on the new IE7
see this topic on joomla site http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?p=1398121
need support please
March 24th, 2009 at 5:13 am
We used this plug-in for quite some time but now that I use IE8 it dsiplays the site in mobile style. All other browsers look good. Is there a fix for this??
Many thanks Remy
March 24th, 2009 at 8:47 am
I fixed the problem reading this topic: http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=371889
Changing the "nec" enry in the pda browser array of "mambots/system/pdabot.php" from "nec" to "nec-" solve the problem.
July 14th, 2009 at 12:45 am
I just get a "Error! Could not find a Joomla! XML setup file in the package." trying to install any of the two packages… I have tried installing from original zip, repacked them, install directly through URL, and even unpacking them into different folders in the /tmp/ and installing from there. I am going crazy, what the hell am I doing wrong?
