PDA-plugin for Joomla! 1.5
This project and information is deprecated. Please visit Mobile Joomla! project at mobilejoomla.com for the latest and best way of mobilize Joomla! web sites. Thank you very much for your support.
In spite of the fact that the final version of Joomla! 1.5 has not released yet, many already now try to create sites on its basis. Therefore, I often asked in comments to posts and by e-mail for release the version of a PDA-plugin for Joomla! 1.5.
So, the first version of a pda-plugin for Joomla! 1.5 is released. The set of functions is practically identical to functions of a pda-mambot 2.1.2 (but not all functions have passed a full set of tests), but they now are broken into two parts: the part of functions is tuned in options of a pda-plugin, and the part is tuned in options of a pda-template.
As before, first you need to install a pda-template, and then a pda-plugin. After necessary changes to options of a pda-template and a pda-plugin will be made, it is simply enough to activate pda-plugin.
One of difficulties with which you can confront, consists in the list of positions for modules has no positions added in options of a pda-template. In this case simply enter the name of a position from the keyboard, instead of choose it from the list.
If there will be any questions on installation and use of a pda-plugin, ask them in comments or by e-mail. Also, do not forget to make the donation on WebMoney purses Z152066003646, E721221419702, or R168896637514, if you are interested in the further development of this project.

Hi i m using ur Template… its really great… !!
but only the news items are displayed…
the menu [ Transmenu ] , login panel , and no other component is visible !!!
is there any way to show them ?
i use Docman [ file manager ]
i need to list all my files there.. and people can download them direct to their mobile device…
is that possibe ?

Well, I guess I’ll pile in on the bugs…
1) If an admin has enabled “link titles” where the titles are turned into links on the home page… the page titles are not readable. This is because you have a blue URL color on top of a blue box for the title text.
The solution would be to either change the URL color, or, change the color of the box.
2) The old version (1.9) of the template appeared much better than the current version on iPhone and iPod touch. I’m not sure if it’s respecing the normal font, or if it’s a spacing issue… I suspect the font size is expanding to the width of the page. This actually looks terrible on high-resolution devices (like iPhone), since you often have to drag slightly to the left or right to read each line.
I would switch back to the 1.9 version of formatting the text, defining a strict font size rather than being dynamic to the width…

varun:
Yes. Make a copy of menu module, login module etc. and publish them in one of pda-template positions (you can specify names of positions in pda-template settings).
I didn’t test Docman component from mobile devices. So, I don’t know. Test it.

Really needed this component, thanks! But having trouble installing template file pda15.zip. Here is the error I am getting.
# JInstaller::install: File ‘/home/famouspo/public_html/tmp/install_471fa357123b8/css/index.html’ does not exist
Help!

Wayne:
Sorry, I forget to remove index.html from templateDetails.xml
Try to redownload pda15.zip.

I managed to fix the problem with iPhone and iPod touch (at least for now).
What I did was take version 1.9 (which I have backed up) and altered that template to work with 2.1.2’s mambot (by changing the version check so that everything reads 2.1.2 in the template). Things look great on both devices once again.
Hopefully the old template will be offered, or better, find out whatever is causing the current plugin/mambot to look horrible on iPhone (I’m still pretty sure what I posted above is the main cause).

Thanks for the awesome plugin. Finding this plugin encouraged me to play around with Joomla! for the first time. I am having a little difficulty, however. I am using 1.5 RC4 and your 1.5 plugin. Everything works great in most browsers, and my blackberry and windows mobile smartphones see the PDA page correctly. Unfortunately any IE browser sees the PDA page too, rather than the default layout. Did I miss something in the configuration?

Try to redownload plugin (sorry, I forgot to remove MSIE from mobile browsers list).

How about fireboard template? Any ideas to rebuild it?
January 12th, 2008 at 7:07 am
It is possible to make different (mobile) template for fireboard. And it is easy to make its active for mobile devices (just to set global variable $fb_user_template). But it takes a lot of time to make a new template. And unfortunately, now I have no time for work on it.

If I install other extensions like community builder, blogs, photo gallery and fireboard will it show also in the PDA?

Is there a way to embed utf8 fonts to view non-english (eg: Maldivian written script, ދިވެހި) fonts into the PDA plugin? If so, this would be great for the many Non-english websites that has asian, arabic, chinese etc.
May 22nd, 2008 at 8:22 am
Joseph, I don't know how to "embed" font into pda-compatible page. If mobile device supports non-english characters, it shows page correctly. Can you explain in details what did you mean?

Something to change or configure?
August 15th, 2008 at 8:39 pm
Greetings,
I love your initiative in developing this plugin and template. I am having issues getting the menu to appear on the mobile version of my site as well. I even attempted creating a new menu and module and did not have any success with it.
Any suggestions?
Thanks again!

Fot our website not really a must, but with this idiot-proof plugin to easy not to use. Many thanks!
October 14th, 2008 at 4:46 pm
I read in various posts about thoughts for image resizing in PDA-versions of content items. As the images used within content items in our websites are pretty wide, do you plan add an image-resize option in the near future?
October 16th, 2008 at 2:20 pm
I installed the PDA version and now my site has the following error :
Direct Access to this location is not allowed.
I can not get to the front end nor the back end now.
Please help
October 16th, 2008 at 3:52 pm
Paul Greco, you installed PDA-mambot (for J!1.0 only) instead of PDA-plugin (for J!1.5 only). To solve the problem just delete (using FTP) all the text from /plugins/system/pdabot.php and uninstall plugin in backend by usual way.

Hi thanks for a great plug-in. Worked fine on other sites, but my first on 1.5.8 and only some of parameters show: Mambot settings and Post processing, none of the others. Tried the zip and tar.gz. Regards

Good morning,
Its a new day and the panic of last night is diminished. This is the issue now in a nut shell. After installing and then uninstalling pda plugin and pda template, none of my other templates will work. I have even tried installing another template, and it does not work. I only get the default Joomla (blue) template. What editting changes do I need to make where so that the system will find the other templates and I can use them?
Thanks,
Worth

Worth:
Go into your database and look for the "jos_templates_menu" table. In this table you will see the PDA template, just remove it and your done!

Greetings from Colombia (South America). Great job, congratulations. One question: I have a site with linux and php 5. This PDA extension works very good (!). I have another site with windows (IIS) and PHP 4. This works fine except the redirect to mobile home as defined in the configuration. There any restrictions on versions of PHP and OS (Linux / windows)?

Same problem. PDA template shows in IE 7, not default template. Such a pity
March 23rd, 2009 at 12:46 pm
It also displays the pda template in firefox as well.
March 27th, 2009 at 9:37 am
I want that the plugin should not detect the pda. But if one wants to visit mobile version of website he or she should visit by typing subdomain in address bar.
I tried a lot to do this but am not able to get it done.
Can you please tell me how to do it.

I once had a PDA template (not this one) that worked submitting weblinks via the PDA template but this one doesnt seem to work

Hi. great plugin, works nicely.
however, I only get the choice of a "Left Module Position" how do I have a choice of module positions, so that I can spready my modules above and below the article content.
Thanks
Shane

I figured it out. As you said in the beginning. Type the module position in, instead of from a drop down list.
WONDERFUL… have a great day !!!

Hi! It seems that the template and the bot rel 2.1.2 cannot be run on Joomla 1.5.13 native. So what should I change in the code, that it is possible to run native mode?
BTW, I am not able to do PHP coding. Perhaps someone may help with this?

October 27th, 2009 at 3:08 pm
Hi Dmitry (and all other who have problems with IE-8 showing up PDA template:
The solution is written in joomla forum http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=371889 by ddmobley: You just have to open the file "pdabot.php". In this you find the section "CheckAgent()", in an array: function CheckAgent() { $pdas = array(…..In the contribution above, there had been trouble with IE-7 and its special user agent string. If you have changed "nec" into "nec-" within the pdabot.php the problem with IE-7 was gone. For IE-8 problem, you will have to find out, which user agent string is used by IE-8. Then you can compare with the entries in the padbot.php and modify that entry, which is similar with the user agent string of the IE-8.Please post result here! Thanks.
