Denis Ryabov
(aka Physicist)

So, I’m really the physicist. My real name is Denis Ryabov. Now I’m working on the PhD thesis (in the field of nonlinear dynamics) at the Southern Federal University (Russia, Rostov-on-Don).

I have an “off-hour work”: since 2005 I’m the head of the “Student’s Academy of Sciences” at the University. And as a CMS for a site of this organization I have chosen the Joomla!.

For long enough time I managed to understand Joomla! indifferently well. In this blog I’ll describe some most interesting problems concerning Joomla!, answers on which I have taken.

My Joomla-projects

  • PDA Mambot (mambot+template)
    makes a PDA-version of your site;
  • Popular of Late (module)
    shows popular news for the last NNN days;
  • External Links (mambot)
    adds to the external links (in a content) the text “target="_blank"”;
  • Weblog ping (component)
    pings xml-rpc updating services (such as rpc.weblogs.com or rpc.technorati.com);
  • CAPTCHA (hacks)
    add CAPTCHA to Joomla! forms;
  • josSmartyPants & josMarkdown (mambots)
    typography mambots (convert the plain text into pretty HTML; support for different quotation marks as well as for converting normal spaces to unbreakable spaces and thus preventing inappropriate line breaks etc.);
  • Russian Typography (mambot)
    SmartyPants analogue for russian language (but it is more than an analogue);
  • Conferences (component)
    registration of participants of scientific conferences (see it in work here and here); it does not distributed.
